A private speedboat day on the east coast
Leave from the port of the fishing village of Trou d'Eau Douce aboard a private speedboat and cross the largest lagoon in Mauritius, heading for the Grand River South East waterfalls.
At the river mouth, where the river meets the ocean, you will find impressive ravines and a spectacular waterfall. Admire it from the water, then continue to calm, turquoise water for a swim or a snorkel, with equipment included.
Next comes Ile aux Cerfs. A delicious BBQ lunch is served on the island, followed by a visit to its north coast, famous for its white sandy beaches and shallow lagoon. After lunch, the island is yours to enjoy exactly as you like, before your private boat takes you back to Trou d'Eau Douce.
Good to know
A name from fresh water: Trou d'Eau Douce means "fresh water hole". Dutch ships stopped here in the 17th century to take on fresh water, which gave the village its name.
The longest river in Mauritius: the Dutch called the Grand River South East "Groote River", or Great River, and used it in the 17th century to store and ship ebony wood.
No deer on Deer Island: Ile aux Cerfs means "deer island", although there are no deer on it today.
