Whale watching off the west coast

Meet whales in their natural habitat, just off the west coast of Mauritius. Whale watching is a moving experience that brings you close to unspoiled scenery and magnificent animals.

Sperm whales can be seen off the west coast all year round. They live in the warm waters around the island, often travelling in groups of 10 to 20. Humpback whales visit in season, moving to warmer waters for the mating season.

Once on site, the crew shares fascinating facts about these majestic marine mammals. Approach rules and minimum distances are always respected, so the whales are never disturbed. Bring your camera to capture the moment.

When to see the whales

Sperm whales: all year round

Humpback whales: from around July to November

Wildlife is wild, so sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Getting there

Your day starts from your accommodation, and the speedboat leaves from Black River. Transport is not included in the excursion price, but you can add a private return transfer in the Extras section when you book:

Price policy

0 to 3 years old: the excursion is free of charge
4 to 11 years old: child rate applies
12 years old and above: adult rate applies

Transportation

Transportation is not included in the excursion price. Rates exclude transfer, and you can add a private return transfer in the Extras section when you book.

Waiting time and delays: Transfer arrangements are based on the confirmed excursion schedule and expected service duration. If additional waiting time is required due to circumstances beyond the control of Etnika Travel and its driver, an additional charge may apply. This may include:

Extended activity duration
Late departure by guests
Delays at the excursion venue
Traffic conditions or other unforeseen circumstances

Cancellation policy

If the excursion is cancelled by the local authorities or because of weather conditions, it will be rescheduled for the following days or replaced by another tour. If bad weather persists, you will be refunded the entire amount before your departure.

If you cancel

7 days before the excursion date: 100% refund
72 hours before the excursion date: cancellation penalty of 75% of the cost of the excursion
Less than 72 hours before: cancellation penalty of 100% of the cost of the excursion
Day of the excursion or no-show: cancellation penalty of 100% of the cost of the excursion

Full payment is due upon confirmation of booking, and an invoice will be sent accordingly
All banking charges are paid by the client
If payment is not received before the excursion date (conditions apply), the booking will be invalid
