DAY 3 - South Tour – Scenic Landscapes & Rum Experience (Full Day)
The final day takes guests through the wild and lush landscapes of southern Mauritius, combining natural wonders with cultural and spiritual heritage. The journey begins with a stop at Trou aux Cerfs, a dormant volcanic crater that offers sweeping views across the island. From there, the tour continues to a ship model factory, where visitors can discover the artistry behind the island’s famous handcrafted miniature ships. The next highlight is Grand Bassin, also known as Ganga Talao, a sacred Hindu lake surrounded by temples and statues, where a serene spiritual atmosphere prevails. Moving deeper into the south, the route leads to the Black River Gorges viewpoint, where the island’s largest national park opens into dramatic valleys and forested landscapes. A traditional Mauritian lunch is then served at Chez Ruben Restaurant, offering authentic flavours in a welcoming local setting.
In the afternoon, the focus turns to the village of Chamarel. Guests are guided through La Rhumerie de Chamarel, a renowned rum distillery, where they learn about the production process before enjoying a tasting session of locally made rum. The journey continues to the natural wonders of Chamarel, beginning with the Seven Coloured Earths, a rare geological formation where sand dunes display distinct hues of red, violet, yellow, and brown. Nearby, the Chamarel Waterfall plunges from towering cliffs into a lush forest, creating one of the island’s most iconic natural sites.
