Climb Le Morne Brabant, the symbol of Le Morne
The symbolic Le Morne Brabant is a majestic mountain in the south-western part of Mauritius, on the Le Morne peninsula. It has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site to honour the legacy of the Maroons, the runaway slaves, in Mauritius.
This half-day trail invites nature lovers and adventurers to an exciting hiking experience at the south-western tip of the island. The hike lasts between three and four hours, and you are guided by professionals.
You may also gain access to the second part of the mountain, which can only be reached with authorised guides. Snacks, fruit and juice are included.
Good to know
The underwater waterfall: from the mountain you can look down on the famous optical illusion of a waterfall pouring beneath the sea, made by sand and silt on the lagoon floor.
A mountain of rare plants: the area is one of the most preserved natural spaces of the island, home to endemic species such as Trochetia boutoniana, the plant of the national flower of Mauritius.
Small wonders to spot: keep an eye out for rare orchids, endemic butterflies and native geckos along the way.
A 360° view: the summit looks out over the Indian Ocean, the lagoon and the Black River Gorges.
