The unexpected natural beauty of Mauritius, with everything taken care of
Discover the unexpected natural beauty of Mauritius with a dedicated driver guide and a private vehicle that collects you from your accommodation and brings you back at the end of the day. Transport, driver guide and entrance tickets are all included, so there is nothing to organise.
Your day begins at the dormant volcano of Trou aux Cerfs, which offers a magnificent view over the island. A stop at a model ship factory reveals the refinement and detail of reproductions of historic sailing ships.
Then comes the mystical atmosphere of Hinduism at Grand Bassin, where the towering statues of the goddess Durga and the God Shiva, each 33 metres high, dominate the sacred lake. Picturesque temples and statues of other Hindu deities surround the water, which is also home to monkeys and giant eels.
After a stop on a panoramic terrace over the forests of the Black River Gorges, among plantations of sugarcane, bananas, pineapple and coffee, you arrive in Chamarel. Here you will admire the island's highest waterfalls and the charm of the seven coloured earths, and meet the giant tortoises. The final stop is a terrace above the sea, with a fantastic view of Benitiers Island and the famous mountain of Le Morne Brabant.
Good to know
Trou aux Cerfs: a dormant volcano about 605 metres above sea level, with a crater roughly 350 metres wide and 80 metres deep, in the middle of a forest of native plants and pine trees.
Grand Bassin: the sacred crater lake of Ganga Talao, about 550 metres above sea level. Each year, around the Maha Shivaratri festival, thousands of Hindu devotees walk there on foot from across the island.
The seven coloured earths: the colours come from basaltic lava cooling into clay minerals. Mix the sands together and they settle back into separate layers.
Chamarel waterfall: one of the tallest waterfalls in Mauritius, nestled in a forest-lined mountain valley.
